Introducing the work of Iaon Nemtoi, a Rumanian glass sculptor from humble beginnings:

“My interest for shapes and for creating began at a very young age. I remember when I had to tend the sheep at home when I was 7-8 years old. I was very bored so I let the sheep graze near a lake where I knew there was some good clay and this is where I made my first creations. When I came home my father was angry because the sheep had not had enough grass to eat.”

Come into the gallery this week to see how this simple young boy developed into a wonderful glass artist and exceeded all family hopes and dreams. His work is really something to behold.

Barbara does not sit in judgement of her subjects but instead captures intimate moments, filled with emotion and innuendo.

Something a Little Different by Suzie O’Shea!

Based in Bendigo, Suzie O’Shea has a talent for creating detailed dresses and elaborate gowns…out of clay.

“My mother was a dressmaker and ballroom dancer, and my uncle worked in clay so you could say I have both in my blood,” she says.

We have a range of beautiful sculptures by Suzie and invite you to pop into the gallery and see for yourself!

Gallery Spotlight: Albert Woodroffe and Bronwen Standley-Woodroffe

We’re thrilled to have new works by Albert Woodroofe in the gallery.

Albert has been a finalist in the prestigious Country Energy Art prize for Landscape painting 2008, 2009, 2010. In 2010 he exhibited widely throughout Australia including “Outback” Parliament House, Sydney. Albert has also exhibited extensively internationally.

We’re also lucky enough to have some beautiful works by Bronwen Standley-Woodroffe, who drew inspiration from the Australian Landscape, visiting many outback locations within the country each year. Bronwen passed away following a courageous battle with cancer in January 2010, but her memory lives on in the remarkable legacy of her work.

Llael Shannon-McDonald has just submitted some new work to the gallery after a sell out! This particular piece is titled “Back of Acland” and is a dark yet vibrant St Kilda streetscape.

James Robertson is back, and apparently better than ever! Well known for his dramatic landscapes and “simple complexities”, James is clearly still having fun with this fantastic piece that seems to just draw you in.

If you’re the kind of person who thinks travelling the world while painting and holding exhibitions is cool, then you’re going to LOVE Terry Jarvis.

His water colour paintings are created while he tours new and familiar lands, capturing beautiful scenic landscapes and settings. I am turning green right now just thinking about the life he leads!

Born in Castlemaine, Terry proves that a little ingenuity, lots of talent, and some dedication can take you a very long way…and back home again.

Swiss Italian Landscape Prize

It’s all happening at the gallery this week!

Tomorrow night, Wednesday 19th, is the opening of the Swiss Italian Landscape Art Prize. Come into the gallery from 7pm to enjoy the fantastic landscape works submitted, along with a glass of bubbly of course!

The Hepburn Springs Swiss Italian Festa is entering its 19^th year and works to acknowledge our history, celebrate our lifestyle, and nurture our cultural heritage for tomorrow. The Landscape exhibition will run from Thursday 20th until Sunday 30th October.
